Two female journalists who covered the death and burial of Mahsa Amini will soon face trial in Iran, as announced by Iranian authorities.
Elahe Mohammadi’s trial is scheduled for June 29, while Niloofar Hamedi’s trial will take place on May 30, according to local news reports.
These journalists reported on the circumstances surrounding the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died in police custody for not properly wearing her hijab.

Ms. Hamedi was detained in Iran’s Evin Prison since September 2022 after breaking the news about Ms. Amini’s death, while Ms. Mohammadi was arrested and detained in Evin Prison after writing an article about Ms. Amini’s funeral.
The judiciary spokesperson accused both journalists of colluding with the United States government against Iran’s national security and propagating against the system.
On World Press Freedom Day, UNESCO recognized both journalists for their dedication to truth and accountability.
