Tragic accident claims the life of woman hit by police motorcycle escorting Duchess of Edinburgh

The family of Helen Holland, an 81-year-old woman from Birchanger in Essex, has confirmed her passing after being struck by a police motorcycle while it was escorting the Duchess of Edinburgh.

The incident occurred at the junction of West Cromwell Road and Warwick Road in Earl’s Court, west London, on May 10.

Ms. Holland fought for her life for nearly two weeks, but her family revealed that irreversible brain damage ultimately ended her battle.

An investigation into the crash is currently being conducted by the police watchdog. Buckingham Palace had previously conveyed the Duchess’s sympathy and prayers for the injured lady and her family.

Ms. Holland, who was visiting her sister in London at the time, was left in a coma after the collision, and her condition remained critical until her tragic demise.

Chief Superintendent Richard Smith expressed the sorrow felt by colleagues across the Metropolitan Police, extending condolences to the woman’s family.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is overseeing an independent investigation into the incident, which includes the examination of CCTV footage and police body camera recordings.
