Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has defended Senator Kashim Shettima’s purchase of the 2023 senatorial form for the upcoming general election.
Shettima, who is now the Vice President-elect alongside President-elect Bola Tinubu, had faced criticism for his double nomination and was even taken to the Supreme Court.

Sani, however, argued that Shettima had not committed any offense, highlighting the examples of Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and senator-elect Godswill Akpabio.
Lawan had contested the presidential election and then re-contested for his senatorial seat, while Akpabio, who is awaiting inauguration, also ran for the presidency.
Sani emphasized that Shettima should not be denied the right to seek another office if he fails to win one, and he expressed his belief that the Supreme Court would not rule against double nomination.
