President of NLC vows to fight for workers’ rights, faces opposition

Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has emphasized his commitment to fighting for the rights of Nigerian workers, even if it means stepping on toes and facing opposition.

During a visit to the Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN) headquarters in Abuja, Ajaero expressed his unwavering dedication to his role as NLC President.

He highlighted his confrontations with Eastern governors, particularly Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, accusing him of attempting to manipulate the state executive of the NLC for personal gain.

Ajaero’s actions included temporarily halting flights from Lagos to Owerri as a form of protest.

He criticized members of the National Assembly and officials of the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, alleging that they receive excessive salaries and benefits without meeting the necessary qualifications.

Ajaero urged others to take an interest in politics and called for President Muhammadu Buhari’s prompt approval of a bill to amend the Act establishing colleges of education in Nigeria, which would bring about significant changes in the sector.
