Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has given his endorsement to Godswill Akpabio, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, for the position of Senate President.

Wike declared his support during a visit by Akpabio and a group of senators-elect who are backing him. The visit was led by Ali Ndume, representing Borno South.

Akpabio and Barau Jibrin were nominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.

Wike expressed his support for Akpabio, stating that he would back him because Akpabio had supported him during his own gubernatorial ambition in Rivers state.

He emphasized the importance of the ruling party choosing someone who can work with the President-elect as Senate President. Wike urged Akpabio not to be discouraged by opposition, assuring him that it is a normal occurrence in politics.
