Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has addressed persistent rumors of a romantic relationship with her best friend, singer Janelle Monáe.

In a recent Rolling Stone cover story, Nyong’o acknowledged why people might assume they are romantically involved but refused to definitively deny the rumors.

She described Monáe as enigmatic and acknowledged their close association, expressing pride in being associated with her in any capacity.

Nyong’o recounted their initial meeting at the Met Gala in 2014, where Monáe offered support and friendship, even exchanging phone numbers.

Despite their close bond, Nyong’o admitted she doesn’t know everything about Monáe, emphasizing the artist’s intriguing nature.

While Nyong’o is currently dating television host Selema Masekela, Monáe, who came out as pansexual and non-binary, remains private about their personal life, stating that discussing their identity and sexuality without going into details is sufficient.
