Ilaro polytechnic student allegedly commits suicide after losing fees to online betting

In a devastating turn of events, Samuel Adekoya, a student of the Federal Polytechnic in Ilaro, Ogun State, has reportedly taken his own life.

According to reports, Adekoya consumed a chemical substance after losing both his own fees and those of his friend in an online betting activity.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Monday, just as his peers were preparing for their first-semester exams.

It was revealed that Adekoya gained access to his roommate’s password and used the funds intended for his friend’s fees to participate in the online betting, resulting in further financial loss.

Despite being swiftly taken to the school clinic and subsequently referred to a specialist hospital outside the campus, Adekoya was declared deceased shortly after admission.

The Deputy Registrar, Public Relations of the institution, Sola Abiala, confirmed the incident and disclosed that it was determined at the hospital that the late student had ingested a chemical substance.
