Abducted NYSC corps members freed after one week in captivity

Seven members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were kidnapped while traveling from the orientation camp in Ondo State to Port Harcourt, Rivers State have been released after spending a week in captivity.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed their release and stated that an official statement would be issued.

Last week, it was reported that armed men had abducted 12 Corps members along the Rumuji axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State, with five managing to escape.

A family member of one of the victims also confirmed their release, mentioning that they were freed around 9 pm on Sunday near Choba in Obio/Akpor local government area after a ransom was paid.

The released Corps members were in poor condition, showing signs of being exposed to harsh elements while held captive.
