Presidential election petition tribunal sets deadline for Obi and labour party’s challenge against Tinubu’s victory

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has given an order to Peter Obi and the Labour Party, stating that they must present their joint petition challenging Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election within a period of three weeks.

Additionally, the Tribunal has instructed President-elect Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to defend his victory within five days.

Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, the Chairman of the Tribunal, issued this order during the presentation of the pre-hearing session report on Tuesday.

One of the directives from Justice Tsammani was for Obi to begin presenting his petition on May 30 and conclude it by June 23.

Previously, Obi, through his legal representative Professor Awa Kalu, SAN, had requested a period of seven weeks to substantiate their allegations against Tinubu’s victory.

However, the Tribunal determined that due to the limited time available for resolving the petition, the request could not be granted.
