Overturned container truck causes chaos in Anambra state

Motorists in Anambra State are facing severe gridlock due to a 40-ft container truck that overturned along the Mgbaemene section of the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway.

The driver of the truck lost control, causing it to fall and block a significant portion of the road. This obstruction has created a narrow path for other vehicles to pass through, resulting in heavy traffic congestion.

The situation has been exacerbated by the fact that emergency responders have not yet removed the truck since it fell on Thursday. As a result, commercial drivers have been avoiding the affected area, leading to stranded commuters.

Those who still attempt to travel through the area have been forced to pay increased transport fares.

Despite the presence of emergency responders, including naval officials, who are managing the traffic, the gridlock persists. The truck remains on the road, causing frustration and inconvenience for the trapped motorists.

One commuter, identified as Madam Chioma, expressed her dismay over the situation, highlighting that people have been suffering since Thursday with no action taken to remove the obstruction.

The recent rainfall has further complicated matters, as some sections of the road have become muddy, forcing passengers to disembark from commercial vehicles and tricycles and continue their journey on foot.

An anonymous official from the Federal Road Safety Corps revealed that the response team is awaiting the arrival of a crane to facilitate the removal of the truck. In the meantime, motorists are advised to exercise patience and follow the instructions provided by the response team.
