In a remarkable display of athleticism, Maria Perez made history at the European Race Walking Team Championships by obliterating the women’s 35km race walk world record.
The Spanish athlete left spectators in awe as she surpassed the previous record set by Kimberly Garcia of Peru by an astounding 29 seconds.
Perez’s extraordinary feat took place in Podebrady, Czech Republic, where she crossed the finish line with a stunning time of two hours, 37 minutes, and 15 seconds.
Her nearest competitor, fellow Spaniard Raquel Gonzales, trailed behind by over eight minutes. The Spanish dominance continued with Cristina Montesinos securing the third position, securing a clean sweep for Spain.

According to European Athletics, Perez became the first Spaniard in track and field to break a world record since Francisco Fernandez achieved the same feat in the 10,000m race walk back in 2008.
Expressing her elation, Perez stated, “It is a nice feeling to finish the race, and the time is a big reward for this.”
She further revealed that she had not set a specific time or target in mind before the race, focusing solely on giving her best performance.
Perez’s remarkable achievement will now undergo the ratification procedure of World Athletics, which is a customary process for validating record-breaking performances.
