In an official statement made by Hajiya Umma Ahmad, the Commissioner of Local Government in Kaduna State, it was revealed that the Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has given his approval for the removal of two traditional rulers from their positions.
His Highness Jonathan Paragua Zamuna, the traditional ruler of Piriga Chiefdom, and His Highness General Aliyu Iliyah Yammah (retd.), the traditional ruler of Arak Chiefdom, have been deposed from their respective offices effective from May 22, 2023.
The decision to depose the traditional rulers was made following recommendations from the Ministry of Local Government, in accordance with the Traditional Institutions Law No. 21 of 2021, specifically Section 11.
The statement further outlined the interim arrangements put in place after the depositions.
Babangida Sule, the District Head of Garun Kurama, will oversee the affairs of Piriga Chiefdom until a new chief is appointed, while the Council Secretary has been instructed to initiate the process of appointing a new chief.

Similarly, Gomna Ahmadu, the Council Secretary of Arak Chiefdom, will temporarily oversee the chiefdom and initiate the process for appointing a new chief.
The statement cited the reasons behind the depositions. General Iliyah Yammah was found to have appointed four district heads in contradiction to the approved number for his chiefdom, as well as not residing within the Arak chiefdom.
Jonathan Zamuna’s deposition was attributed to recent communal clashes between the Gure and Kitimi communities of Piriga chiefdom in Lere LGA, and his failure to reside within the chiefdom.
In addition to the removal of the traditional rulers, the statement also announced the immediate disengagement of the village heads of Aban, Abujan Mada, and Anjil in Arak Chiefdom.
