The alleged remarks made by Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Akeem Yusuf, have sparked criticism among Nigerians.
It is reported that Yusuf hinted that the body of Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti could have been dumped in the lagoon around Third Mainland Bridge as a consequence of slapping a policeman in Lagos State.
The remark attributed to Yusuf was shared on social media, drawing attention and condemnation.
One Facebook user, Abimbola Adebayo, posted a screenshot of Yusuf’s alleged comment alongside his picture and that of Seun Kuti.
Adebayo criticized the commissioner’s statement and shared her own experience of a policeman threatening to shoot and throw her into the lagoon.

Other Facebook users, such as Malik Abdulmalik and Basil Ezeunegbu, joined in condemning the remark, linking it to the issue of extrajudicial killings by the Nigerian Police Force.
In response to the criticism, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, claimed that Yusuf’s Facebook account had been hacked since September 2022.
Aya maintained that the statement attributed to Yusuf was fake and aimed at tarnishing the commissioner’s image.
He urged the public to disregard any messages from that account and stated that the comment did not reflect the true identity of Yusuf.
