China’s cyberspace regulator has declared that products manufactured by US memory chip giant Micron Technology pose significant network security risks and are a threat to national security.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) announced that Micron’s products would be banned from key infrastructure projects in the country.
While the specific risks and products involved were not disclosed, this move marks China’s first major action against a US chip maker as tensions between Beijing and Washington continue to escalate.

In response, the US government expressed its opposition to restrictions that lack factual basis and pledged to collaborate with allies to address distortions in the memory chip market caused by China’s actions.
The CAC’s announcement follows the G7 leaders’ joint statement criticizing China’s economic coercion and coincides with efforts by G7 nations, including the US, to diversify supply chains and mitigate risks in their relationships with China.
Micron Technology’s CEO, Sanjay Mehrotra, recently attended the G7 summit in Japan as part of a group of business leaders.
