Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the outgoing Governor of Delta State, has staunchly defended the construction of a 2,000-capacity ecumenical centre in Asaba for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly-constructed centre, Okowa emphasized that the Delta State Christian Centre symbolizes unity for the church of Christ in the state.
He acknowledged that Delta was a predominantly Christian state and urged the church to remain prayerful to ensure the manifestation of God’s glory upon the people and the state.
Expressing gratitude to religious leaders for their support during his administration, Okowa called on them to extend the same support and prayers to the incoming administration of Sheriff Oborevwori.
He stressed the importance of providing Christians in the state with a place to gather and call their own, fostering unity among them.
Okowa commended the Ministry of Housing, Contemporary Design Associates (the consultant), and North China Construction Company (the contractor) for successfully delivering the project.
Chief Festus Ochonogor, the Commissioner for Housing, explained that the two-storey building project was approved in March 2019.
The secretariat complex includes a 2,000-capacity auditorium with a mezzanine suspended floor, conference room, chairman’s office, dressing areas, sound and studio room, offices, conveniences, generator, generator house, gatehouse, and other auxiliary facilities.
Ochonogor highlighted the state government’s commitment to realizing the project as a testament to the significance of the association under Governor Okowa’s administration.
Senior Apostle Sylvester Okorote, the Delta State Chairman of CAN, expressed gratitude to God and Governor Okowa for completing the CAN secretariat complex.
He highlighted that the state government solely funded the project without any financial contributions from CAN blocs.
