The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has initiated a nationwide crackdown on drug dens as part of its “Operation Mop Up” campaign.
The operation aims to eliminate the facilitators of crime and violence, specifically targeting the distribution and use of illegal substances.
The goal is to ensure a peaceful inauguration for the new administrations at both national and sub-national levels on May 29.
Since the operation’s commencement, the NDLEA has already apprehended 534 individuals across various states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Substantial quantities of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, tramadol, codeine-based syrup, cannabis sativa, and other psychoactive substances, have been seized during the operation.
The cities with the highest number of arrests and drug seizures include Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Kaduna, Rivers, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Osun, Benue, and Plateau.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), Chairman of the NDLEA, praised the professionalism of the officers and personnel involved in the operation, emphasizing their adherence to the NDLEA’s standard operating procedures.
He expressed confidence that targeting drug cartels and traffickers would significantly contribute to neutralizing the role of mind-altering substances in disrupting the May 29 inauguration ceremonies nationwide.
