Buhari appoints Toyin Madein as accountant general of the federation

In a recent statement issued in Abuja today, the President of Nigeria, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has given his approval for the appointment of Toyin Madein as the new Accountant-General of the Federation.

The Director of Communications at the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed, signed the statement.

Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, confirmed that the appointment became effective on May 18, 2023.

Prior to this role, Madein served as the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

The appointment follows a series of procedures in which 20 directors from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies were cleared by the nation’s anti-graft agencies to compete for the position.

This vacancy arose due to the arrest and subsequent suspension of the former Accountant-General, Ahmed Idris, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in July 2022, on charges of misappropriating N109 billion.

Among the shortlisted candidates who participated in the selection process were individuals like Danladi Comfort, Mohammed Yar’Abba, Mufutau Bukola, Mahmud Kambari, Mohammed Dojo, Waziri Samuel, Maiden Sakirat, Adaramoye Oluwole, Isa Abubakar, Ogunsemowo Olakunle, Egbokhale Charity, Ibrahim Jibo, Ogbodo Nnam, and Bakare Juliannah, who represent various ministries and commissions.
