Kwara state dominates inaugural Bet9ja national teqball tour

The inaugural edition of the Bet9ja Delta State National Teqball tour concluded over the weekend at the Stephen Stadium in Asaba, leaving a lasting impression.

Despite being a relatively new sport in the country, the event attracted participants from over 10 states.

After four days of intense competition starting from May 10, Kwara State emerged as the dominant force, securing victories in all five events and claiming the gold medals.

In the men’s doubles final, Kwara defeated Taraba 2-0, while they also triumphed over Edo State with the same scoreline in the mixed doubles final. The women’s singles final saw Kwara secure another gold medal by defeating Edo 2-0.

Kwara State continued their winning streak in the men’s singles final, with Victor Oyemade, Nigeria’s number one and the world’s 34th best Teqball player, defeating his fellow Kwara state player Funsho Samsudeen 2-0.

However, in a surprising twist, the pair of Gladys Abasi and Success Eke from Edo State overcame the Kwara state duo of Rashidat Salau and Shade with a 2-1 victory in the women’s doubles final.

Kwara State also clinched gold and silver in the men’s doubles event. Delta State, as the host, settled for the bronze medal in the women’s singles third-place match, while UYI Amengor Teqball Club representing Edo State secured the bronze medal in the men’s doubles with a 2-1 win over Ogun State.

During the medal presentation, Victor Nosa Ikpeba, Bet9ja Ambassador and former African Footballer of the Year, expressed his satisfaction with the event and praised the organizers, players, and sponsors for their contributions.

He emphasized that Teqball has a bright future in Nigeria and expressed hope for an even more successful edition in the future.

Edede Ndudi, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Teqball Federation, thanked Delta State for hosting a remarkable event and acknowledged the efforts of the organizers and sponsors.

Marvel Dick, Chairman of Delta State Teqball, extended his appreciation to the various chairmen, states, and sponsors involved in making the Asaba tournament a success.

The event also saw the finalists receive branded jerseys from the sponsor, Bet9ja, presented by Marvel Dick and assisted by Lucky Sunday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Sports.
