US imposes visa restrictions on individuals in Nigeria for undermining democratic process during 2023 elections

The US Government has announced that it has taken measures to impose visa restrictions on certain individuals in Nigeria who have allegedly undermined the democratic process during Nigeria’s 2023 election cycle.

Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, made the announcement in a statement on the US Government website.

According to Blinken, the visa restrictions are targeted at specific individuals and are not directed at the Nigerian people or the Nigerian government as a whole.

The restrictions will be enforced under Section 212(a)(3)C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which covers those believed to be responsible for or complicit in undermining democracy.

Blinken stated that the individuals targeted have been involved in various activities that undermine Nigeria’s democratic process, such as voter intimidation, manipulation of vote results, and other actions that compromise the integrity of the election.

However, no names have been disclosed yet.
