Rainfall in Lagos causes damage to buildings and displacement of families, NEMA reports

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reported that recent rainfall in Lagos from May 1 to May 15 has had a significant impact on the area.

According to NEMA’s assessment, 228 buildings and 336 families have been affected to varying degrees.

The rainfall events, particularly on May 1 and May 15, were accompanied by severe windstorms, resulting in damages to both public and private structures. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties or fatalities.

The affected areas include Agboyi one, Agboyi two, Agboyi three, Odo Ogun communities in Kosofe Local Government Area, and Agege, Ifako Ijaye, Ikola, Isale Aboru, and Oke Ishagun in Alimosho Local Government Area.

A total of 130 houses in Agboyi and 98 buildings in the other areas have been partially or fully impacted, displacing 336 families in total.

In light of these incidents, NEMA urges residents to exercise caution and avoid outdoor activities during heavy rainfall. Children should be kept indoors and schools should take measures to protect students from falling objects.

Seeking shelter under temporary structures or trees should be avoided.
