Nigerian troops rescue another Chibok school girl from Boko Haram captivity

Nigerian troops have successfully rescued Saratu Dauda, another Chibok schoolgirl, from the clutches of Boko Haram. Major General Ibrahim Ali, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), made the announcement.

The 25-year-old Saratu was saved by ground troops on May 6, 2023, at the Ukuba terrorists’ hideouts located in Borno state’s Sambisa forest.

During the handover of Saratu to Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, the State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, in Maiduguri, General Ali revealed that prior to her rescue, Saratu was married to Abu Yusuf, an expert in constructing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) for Boko Haram.

Sadly, Saratu had to leave her three children behind with her coerced husband, Abu Yusuf. Ongoing efforts are being made to rescue the children who remain in the custody of Abu Yusuf.

After her rescue, Saratu was immediately taken to the Maimalari military hospital for intensive care before being handed over to the State government.

General Ali also provided an overview of the rescue operations, stating that out of the 276 schoolgirls abducted on April 14, 2014, 76 managed to escape, and 107 were released by Boko Haram in 2018.

The Army has successfully rescued 186 schoolgirls so far, but 93 are still held captive.

In light of this latest rescue, the State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Gambo, stated that Saratu would be taken to the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre in Maiduguri.

There, she will join other individuals currently undergoing training aimed at equipping them with the skills needed for self-reliance.
