Major arms cache discovered as troops uncover underground ISWAP armoury in sambisa forest

Troops belonging to the 21 Armoured Brigade in Bama, operating under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have made a significant discovery in Borno State’s Sambisa Forest.

During their operations, they uncovered an underground storage facility belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), containing a cache of weapons and ammunition.

The discovery took place when the troops launched an offensive on Ukuba camp, located on the outskirts of Bama Local Council.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, revealed that the recovery of arms and ammunition on May 13, 2023, was part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts known as Desert Sanity II.

Over the past two weeks, the troops had also conducted raids on the same camp, resulting in the recovery of six anti-aircraft guns, four AK-47 rifles, and materials used for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Among the weapons found were various types of Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, SMG rifles, double barrel guns, hand grenades, and SMK bombs.

The cache was concealed in carefully dug pits by the terrorists.
