Senator Osita Izunaso asserts aspiration for senate president, calls for new zoning arrangement

Senator Osita Izunaso insists on his aspiration to lead the Senate of the 10th National Assembly, despite the consensus meeting that declared Godswill Akpabio as the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) candidate for Senate President.

Izunaso, a former chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas and Housing, believes he can bring a fresh perspective to the National Assembly and lead with competence, experience, capacity, and integrity.

He emphasizes his extensive legislative and National Assembly experience, dating back to 1992, and asserts his position as the highest-ranking senator from the South-south and South-east regions.

Izunaso calls on APC leaders, including President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, President Muhammadu Buhari, and APC Chairman Senator Adamu Abdulahi, to address the tension caused by the controversial zoning formula for leadership positions in the National Assembly.

He urges them to create a new zoning arrangement that ensures unity, national cohesion, and the selection of the best candidates for presiding officers.

Izunaso believes that the incoming administration should strive to meet the high expectations of Nigerians and the world.

The senator agrees with the APC National Working Committee’s call for further consultations to establish a workable zoning formula.

He argues that Tinubu’s potential presidency has instilled hope for a better Nigeria, and the outcry and protests against the current arrangement demonstrate its inadequacy.

Izunaso presents himself as a complete and loyal party member, capable of bringing a clean and fresh image to the Senate.

He highlights his qualifications as the most competent, capable, and organized candidate, and emphasizes his youth and representation of the marginalized South-east region.
