Outgoing Kano state governor accused of selling state properties to family and associates, transition committee claims

The Transition Committee appointed by Abba Kabir Yusuf, the incoming Governor of Kano State, has alleged that the state government’s assets are being sold by the outgoing Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to his relatives and cronies.

Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the committee’s chairman, who leads the Recovery of Public Assets Subcommittee, made these claims during a visit to the Kano State Public Procurement Bureau (Due Process Office) on Wednesday.

Bichi stated that the committee had received reliable information that the Due Process Office had been sold to Abba Ganduje, the governor’s son.

He expressed deep concern over the outgoing governor’s actions, describing them as detrimental to the commonwealth of the people of Kano state.

Bichi further criticized the government’s conduct, likening it to “vandalism” and accused them of dismantling the structures of governance.

According to Bichi, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) possesses substantial evidence indicating that the property was sold for a sum below N10 million.

He referred to the ongoing events as a “drama” and emphasized that the final chapter would unfold on May 29, when the NNPP government of Abba Kabir Yusuf assumes office.

The committee vowed to retrieve and restore any stolen, misused, or vandalized assets to the people of Kano state.

Bichi cautioned property developers to exercise caution and warned that individuals involved in these transactions would face prosecution once the new government assumes power.

Muhammad Garba, the government’s commissioner of information and internal affairs, could not be reached for comment at the time of reporting.
