Four arrested for murdering herdsman in Ogun state

Four individuals have been apprehended in connection with the gruesome killing and dismemberment of a herder named Umaru Aliu in Ijagure village, Imeko-Afon Local Government area of Ogun State.

The announcement was made by David Akinremi, the Commander of the state Amotekun Corps. According to Akinremi, two of the suspects were apprehended by his team in Ogun State, while the other two were captured by the Oyo State Police Command.

The incident occurred on April 30, 2023, at approximately 6pm, and involved a total of seven perpetrators.

Akinremi revealed that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday, following investigations into the murder. The identified suspects are Akinyele Adebayo, aged 49, and Idosu Gbalo, aged 30.

The crime reportedly unfolded when a man named Fagbemi Kareem, who is currently on the run, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun, attacked Umaru Aliu and another herder named Umaru Takake while they were grazing their cattle near Ijagure village.

Fagbemi Kareem was accompanied by Olorunto Segun, Baba Shele, Lana Ojugbele, and Ashipa.

Following the attack, the suspects allegedly dismembered the victim’s body. Olorunto Segun and Baba Shele then contacted Akinyele Adebayo to assist in disposing of the corpse, which he did in the presence of the other accomplices.

Baba Shele reportedly took the victim’s head to an undisclosed location, while the remaining body parts were packed into a sack and buried near the Oyan River in Oke-Ayo village, Imeko.

Upon their arrest, the suspects led authorities to the crime scene and confessed to their involvement in the murder.

However, two prime suspects, Kareem and Baba Shele, have already been apprehended by the Oyo State Police Division, while three others, Lana Ojugbele, Olorunto Segun, and Ashipa, are still at large.

Akinyele Adebayo and Idosu Gbalo are being transferred to the state police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
