Ekiti: Man arraigned by police for alleged theft of N80,000 android phone

A 32-year-old man named Uche George has been brought before the Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State, Nigeria, on charges of theft and assault.

The accused allegedly assaulted a man named Ajayi Kolawole by physically attacking him with punches on May 4th at the Ijigbo area in Ado Ekiti. Additionally, George is accused of stealing an Infinix Hot 12i smartphone valued at N80,000 from Kolawole.

Inspector Celeb Leramo, the police prosecutor, presented these allegations in court on Wednesday, citing Sections 185 and 302 of the Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021 as the applicable laws for the offenses committed.

Luke Mbam, the defendant’s counsel, requested the court to grant his client bail with a credible surety. Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso granted bail in the amount of N25,000 with one surety and scheduled the case for a hearing on June 29th.
