The President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), Aisha Buhari, inaugurated the AFLPM’s new headquarters in Abuja. The new building is expected to provide a conducive working environment for members of the staff of the AFLPM.
Mrs. Buhari stated that the facility would also serve as an institution for promoting research on peace and security in Africa.
She said that establishing structures that would facilitate peace and security research and promote the right values for sustainable peace in Africa was vital in ensuring a positive outcome for the continent.
Mrs. Buhari noted that conflict was currently rampant in many African countries, and that countries like Mozambique, Kenya and Sudan have recently experienced violence that tended to undermine their gains in independence and development.

She lamented that the conflicts had resulted in the loss of many lives and had caused many African first ladies to become widows.
She urged leaders across the continent to strengthen mechanisms that would guarantee peace and promote peace building, mediation, conflict resolution, and post-conflict reconstruction.
Mrs. Buhari highlighted that the AFLPM had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the African Union to promote peace in Africa.
She added that the building has six meeting rooms that were named after notable African leaders, and a 250-seater capacity auditorium.
