Abia State Governor swears in new Chief Judge in substantive capacity

Justice Lilian Abai has been sworn in as the new Chief Judge of Abia State by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

She was previously acting Chief Judge until her appointment was ratified by the National Judicial Council and the State House of Assembly.

During her inauguration, she thanked the governor for ensuring that the processes leading to her appointment were without rancour and pledged to abide by her oath of office to uplift the judiciary and work in harmony with the state government for the betterment of the state.

Governor Ikpeazu expressed optimism that Justice Abai’s tenure would be successful and add greater value to the state judiciary.

He recalled her positive impact during her stint as acting Chief Judge and challenged her to ensure that the state judiciary continues to dispense justice without fear or favour.

In addition to her inauguration, the governor presented her with an official vehicle.

The ceremony was attended by many dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, fellow judges, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Secretary to Government, and the president of the State Customary Court of Appeal, among others.
