Abia lawmaker of Labour Party endorses Abass for house of representatives speaker

Amobi Ogah, the Labour Party member-elect representing Isuikwuato-Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State, has called on his fellow colleagues in the House of Representatives to support Tajudeen Abass, the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate, as Speaker in the upcoming 10th Assembly inauguration.

Ogah, who drummed up support for Abbas while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, urged Nigerian politicians to choose a competent leader over money politics.

Abbas, the representative for Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State in the North-West zone, was named on Monday as the preferred candidate of both President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the APC for the position of Speaker.

Despite some members-elect being unhappy with the choice of the Kaduna politician, Ogah praised the ruling party for making the right decision, stating that Abbas’s emergence would bring unity and inclusiveness to other regions in the country.

Ogah also commended Abbas’s competence and character, which he believed gave him an advantage over other aspirants. He said that Abbas was not engaging in money politics, which was in line with the principles of his party leader, Mr Peter Obi, and that he was a replica of Obi.

Ogah predicted that with Abbas as the Speaker and Ben Kalu as the Deputy Speaker, the 10th Assembly would accomplish more and lead the country to greater heights.

Abbas also assured Nigerians earlier on Tuesday that if he became the Speaker, he would not run a rubber-stamp parliament.
