Former Ivorian footballer and Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has congratulated Victor Osimhen for breaking the African goal-scoring record in the Italian Serie A.
Osimhen scored his 47th goal in the Italian league in Napoli’s 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Sunday, surpassing the previous record held by former AC Milan striker George Weah.
In addition, Osimhen became the highest African goal scorer in a season with 22 goals, overtaking Samuel Eto’o’s 21-goal record in the 2010/2011 campaign.

Following Napoli’s victory over Fiorentina, Drogba took to Twitter to congratulate Osimhen and his club. Napoli claimed their first Serie A title since 1990 with Osimhen playing a key role in their success.
Osimhen, who is a Nigerian Super Eagles striker, is now the top scorer in the Serie A league with 23 goals, ahead of Argentina’s Lautaro Martinez who has 19 goals.
Drogba has previously described Osimhen as a complete and unselfish striker, citing a Champions League game with Ajax where Osimhen passed up a scoring opportunity to his teammate Kvicha Kvaratskhelia as an example of his team-oriented approach.
