The Director General of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, Mustapha Ahmed, has stated that around 800 students will be evacuated from Aswan the following day.
The Nigerian government has been evacuating its citizens from Sudan due to hostilities between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in the Northeast of the country. Ahmed confirmed that two aircraft are on the ground in Aswan, and they are expected to take off the following day, and by the afternoon or evening, the students would arrive.

Additionally, evacuation efforts from Port Sudan will continue with Tarco and Azman airlines. The Nigerian government is engaging Air Peace due to its 274-seater capacity, and they hope to evacuate more citizens. The Nigerian in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, will provide trauma counseling for all returnees as they have undergone a lot of trauma.
According to NIDCOM’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, information about various counseling services will be available on various emergency team websites.
So far, the country has airlifted 637 evacuees back home from Egypt and Port Sudan. The first batch of 376 was airlifted on Wednesday night, while the second batch of 130 was airlifted by a Sudanese aircraft on Friday.
