NDLEA arrests two suspects for concealing cannabis in garri sack

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported the arrest of two suspects in Kano for concealing cannabis weighing 11.2kg inside a bag of garri. According to the agency, Kabiru Muhammed and Isah Muhammed were apprehended along Zaria-Kano Road on Friday, April 28. In addition to this, seven bags of cannabis weighing 74.5kg were also recovered during an NDLEA raid on an uncompleted building in Ala town, Ondo state.

The agency’s officials also confiscated 60kg of cannabis hidden among footwear in two jumbo sacks from a suspect identified as Aminu Mohammed along the Ibadan-Oyo Road in Oyo state. The NDLEA also seized 126 parcels of Canadian loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, weighing 63kg, concealed in a used Toyota Corolla car imported from Toronto, Canada, at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos. The operatives of the agency also intercepted 1.53kg skunk, a high potency strain of cannabis, concealed in old hard drives meant for export to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

In another operation in Benue state, the operatives recovered 859 bottles of codeine-based syrup weighing 117.3kg abandoned by a suspected dealer about two kilometers away from the NDLEA checkpoint along Enugu-Otukpo Road. Meanwhile, in Adamawa state, the NDLEA operatives raided a clandestine factory in Mubi, where a new psychoactive substance called Akuskura was being produced in large quantity and distributed to Chad, Cameroon, and Niger Republic.

NDLEA, as part of its mandate to rid the country of drug trafficking and abuse, has been active in the crackdown on drug-related crimes in Nigeria. With the spate of recent seizures and arrests, the agency is intensifying its efforts to tackle the drug menace in the country. The NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (retd), has reiterated the agency’s commitment to ending drug abuse and drug trafficking, noting that the agency will leave no stone unturned in its quest to make Nigeria drug-free.
