Femi Adesina, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, stated in a recent interview that Buhari had outclassed his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, regarding security, and that Nigeria’s Armed Forces had moved from seventh to fourth place rating in Africa under his leadership.
Adesina said that Buhari had made Nigeria safer during his eight years in office and that Nigeria’s insecurity would have been worse without his intervention.
According to Adesina, Buhari had invested heavily in equipping the military, training troops, and boosting their morale, which resulted in an improvement in their combat readiness and equipment.
He cited the acquisition of Super Tucano and other sophisticated aircraft, among other measures, as proof that the administration had done well in arming the military. Adesina argued that the country would have been overrun by insecurity challenges such as banditry, insurgency, and terrorism if the administration had not invested in the military.
Adesina also pointed out that there had been a noticeable reduction in terrorist attacks and bombings in Nigeria since Buhari assumed office in 2015.
He noted that prior to Buhari’s administration, bombs went off frequently in Abuja, making it difficult for people to move about freely without being searched or checked for explosives.
Despite the government’s claims of progress in the fight against insecurity, the country still faces numerous security challenges, including banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and unknown gunmen attacks.
