Tiwa Savage threat case: Four defendants appear in court

Four individuals have been arraigned in a Yaba magistrates’ court in Lagos state for threatening the life of Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, and attempting to defraud her. The defendants, Eniola Adeniyi, Donatus Osabanumonu, Idorenyi Okon, and Michael Rodolphe, were charged with three counts of conspiracy, intent to defraud, and threat to life.

The prosecutor, Idowu Oshubure, stated that the offences were committed on or before April 13, 2023, and were punishable under Sections 411 and 388 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and Section 14(3) of the Cyber Crime Prohibition Prevention Act, 2015.

The charge sheet accused the defendants of conspiring to conduct themselves in a manner that would cause a breach of peace and annoyance to Tiwa Savage, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Additionally, they were accused of sending fraudulent messages to the singer through phone number 09061665942, which caused her reasonable apprehension of a threat to her life, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 14(3) of the Cyber Crime Prohibition Prevention Act, 2015.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecutor did not object to bail, and after going through their case file, Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each with one responsible surety each in like sum. The case was adjourned to May 31, 2013, for mention.

News reports on April 14 indicated that there was a failed attempt to kidnap the singer. The Force Criminal Investigation Department, Annex confirmed the next day that some suspects were arrested in connection with the case, but the kidnap attempt did not feature in the charges against the defendants.
