Immigration Service officials in Nigeria are appealing to the Comptroller-General of Immigration Service (CG), Idris Isah Jire, to pay them their election allowances before his retirement.
According to a spokesman for the officials, the service was still owing them for the 2019 election duty money, and they are now appealing to CG Jire to pay them for the February 25 general elections as well. The officials threatened to kneel down and tell God what to do to Jire and his generation if he fails to pay them their allowances before he leaves office.
The officials alleged that they had used their own money to pay for their hotel accommodations, food and transportation during the election duties. They claimed that while other agencies have been paid their allowances, they are yet to receive their payments.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has directed Jire to hand over to the next senior person on the service. Although Jire’s tenure extension expired on April 24, 2023, he was to retire in April 2022, but received a tenure extension. In a letter to him, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, directed him to hand over to the most senior officer in the service.
However, the service Public Relations Officer, Tony Akunneme, had earlier assured the officials that the election allowances had been paid, and it was left for their individual banks to transfer the money to their accounts.
The officials have denied receiving the payment and are now appealing to CG Jire to pay them before he leaves office so that the incoming administration will not inherit the debt.
