Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, is scheduled to travel to the United States of America to deliver a special lecture at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
This will be the Vice President’s second visit to the US in the past seven months, following his meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris in September 2022.
In a statement issued by Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, it was disclosed that the lecture, scheduled for Monday, will be centered around Climate Change and a Just Transition, and is being hosted by the University’s Center for Africana Studies.
Additionally, the Vice President will engage in an interactive session with students and faculty during his visit.
Akande also highlighted that Osinbajo is a leading voice and strong advocate for a Just Energy Transition for Africa and the developing world.
He is spearheading efforts aimed at creating the African Carbon Market as one of the pathways of a just and sustainable transition.
The University of Pennsylvania, established in 1740 as a charity school, is one of the eight private universities known as the Ivy League in the United States.
The Center for Africana Studies, a merger of the Afro-American Studies Program and the Center for the Study of Black Literature and Culture, is hosting the Vice President’s special lecture in partnership with other faculties of the University such as PennCarey Law, Perry World House, Wharton Business School, Coalition for Equity and Opportunity, and Perelman School of Medicine.

After the Vice President’s engagements in Philadelphia, he is expected to return to Abuja. The visit underscores the growing importance of Nigeria’s role in the global effort to address climate change, and highlights the Vice President’s commitment to promoting a sustainable and equitable transition to clean energy in Africa and the developing world.
