Despite being 35 years old, Messi is still waxing strong and breaking more records, and he is not looking like stopping anytime soon.
Recently, Lionel Messi made history in the French Ligue 1, becoming the third player in the league’s history to pass 15 goals and assists in a season. Messi is no stranger to breaking records, as he has done so several times throughout his professional career, which kicked off with his boyhood club, Barcelona.

Though Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to expire by June, he isn’t looking like he will slow down anytime soon. Messi assisted Kylian Mbappe as he scored his second goal against Angers SCO on Friday night in a match PSG later won 2-1. The win against Angers SCO on Friday, April 21, 2023, further strengthened PSG’s lead at the top of the table in French Ligue 1.
The assist from Lionel Messi saw his assist tally for the season reach 15, which adds to the 15 goals the Argentine has scored this season. This milestone means that Messi has joined the other two players since the 2006/07 season to record 15 or more goals and 15 or more assists in a single season.

Messi becomes the third player to reach the milestone after Eden Hazard in the 2011/12 season (20 goals and 16 assists) and Kylian Mbappe, who hit the record last season (28 goals and 17 assists). When Lionel Messi arrived at Ligue 1 side PSG in 2021, he had a very difficult season and struggled, especially in finding the back of the net.
In his first season at PSG, Messi was only able to find the back of the net on six occasions but had an incredible record of 15 assists. That was the lowest of Messi’s record since he made his professional debut for Barcelona in 2004. However, it is now evident that the former Barcelona captain has adapted to French football.

Despite his impressive performances, it is unsure if Messi will remain at PSG this summer. The Argentine is yet to commit himself to the club as he has not signed a new contract amid rumors that he may return to his former club, Barcelona. Nevertheless, Messi will be looking to end his illustrious career on a high after winning the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022.

He has won a record seven Ballon d’Or awards and a record six European Golden Shoes, a testament to his incredible talent and hard work. Before leaving Barcelona in 2021, where he spent the majority of his professional career, Messi won a club-record 34 trophies, including 10 La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles, and four UEFA Champions Leagues.
