During the ceremony, Ponnle stated that the Lagos State Government has been a consistent high flyer in the pension industry, paying over N50.7 billion to 13,928 retirees in the Mainstream, Local Government, State Universal Basic Board (SUBEB), Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and other Parastatals of the State Government from May 2019 till date.

The state’s vision is to have a dynamic, efficient, and effective workforce to pilot the agenda of a ‘Greater Lagos’, and the safe retirement and welfare of officers is a major priority in actualizing this goal.

Furthermore, Ponnle pointed out that Lagos State was one of the first states to implement the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) with the objective of ensuring that retirees receive income regularly in their retirement. He had even had an accident that took away his little savings, making this pension all the more important to him. He thanked God for his health and the Lagos State Government for making it possible to receive his pension while still alive.
