HURIWA has urged the Nigerian National Assembly to hold the country’s police force, army, civil defense corps, immigration, and road safety corps accountable for electoral violence in the recently concluded general polls.
The organization’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, accused the security forces of grossly abandoning their pre- and post-election duties in several states, including Ebonyi, Lagos, Rivers, and Kano. HURIWA also plans to file a petition with the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the cases of electoral violence and politically motivated deaths, particularly in Ebonyi.

The organization alleged that the violence was responsible for the withdrawal of its support for the Senate Presidency ambition of Governor Dave Umahi and his All Progressives Congress party.
The group called on the US, UK, Australia, Canada, EU, and the ICC to investigate and prosecute individuals responsible for the violence and killings either in Nigeria or at the ICC for crimes against humanity.
HURIWA clarified that it did not accuse Governor Umahi of the killings but noted that as the Chief security officer of Ebonyi State, he was legally obligated to provide an account of the unwarranted killings during his tenure.
