Edo residents cautioned against using Norvasc tablets

The Edo State Government has cautioned its citizens against the sale and use of Norvasc 5mg tablets manufactured by Viatris Inc, a US-based drug manufacturer.

The warning came after iron wires were found in samples of the drug during shipment. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control had previously issued an alert and recalled six million tablets from two batches of the medication, following similar findings by Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration.

Prof. Obehi Akoria, the state’s Commissioner for Health, revealed in a statement that the two batches of Norvasc 5 mg tablets were substandard and should be disposed of immediately by anyone, including pharmaceutical outlets and healthcare facilities, who may have them in stock.

The state Ministry of Health should also be informed, he added. Patients who had previously taken the drug were advised to consult with their doctors to explore other options. Therefore, citizens are urged to be cautious and not use this product.
