DHQ assures peaceful transition on May 29

In a recent briefing at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, the Director Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Musa Danmadami, assured Nigerians that there will be a peaceful transition of power from the current President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to a new administration on May 29.

Danmadami also noted that the country is safe, despite a recent travel advisory by the United States.

Danmadami dismissed alleged calls by some individuals for an Interim National Government and threats by terror groups to halt the transition period. He stated that as far as the internal security of the nation is concerned, the police is the lead agency, and the military is only providing assistance to civil authority and civil power.

Danmadami assured Nigerians that the transition of power will come and go peacefully, just like the general elections.

According to Danmadami, the intelligence community and members of the armed forces are working round the clock to ensure peace and security are sustained in the country. He stated that follow-up operations are ongoing every day, with people being arrested and weapons seized. Danmadami urged Nigerians to go about their normal duties and not be afraid that there will be calamity when the current administration hands over.
