During a heated exchange with State House Correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, clarified that President Buhari did not intervene in the situation surrounding the suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, because he does not micromanage government agencies.
Mohammed explained that it was the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) responsibility to handle the situation and deal with the infraction by the suspended REC.
The minister added that the government had never intervened in the way INEC conducts its elections, and that there was no need for the government to intervene in this case.
He also noted that he had not received any petition written to Buhari to sanction the suspended REC, who he described as an INEC employee. Ari had announced the All Progressives Congress candidate as the winner of the Adamawa Governorship race, despite ongoing collation of results from various local government areas.
