Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have attacked the Kasada community in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, killing a man identified as Musa Abari and abducting six others, including his wife, Hulaira. The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm on Monday, according to sources.
The attackers, who were armed with AK-47 rifles and said to be in large numbers, reportedly invaded the community and forced their way into the victims’ house. As Musa attempted to prevent them from taking his wife, one of the kidnappers shot him in the chest. The kidnappers then proceeded to other houses in the village, abducting five more people before fleeing into the bush.

The abduction and killing are the latest in a series of similar incidents that have occurred in the FCT and other parts of the country in recent times. Kidnapping for ransom has become a lucrative business in Nigeria, with criminals targeting both the rich and the poor. In some cases, victims are released after their families pay a ransom, while others are killed even after ransom is paid.
The Nigerian government has been criticized for not doing enough to curb the menace of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country. Despite the deployment of security forces and the establishment of special units to tackle the problem, kidnappings and other forms of violent crime have continued to rise.

There have been calls for a more comprehensive approach to addressing the issue, including the involvement of community leaders and stakeholders. The government has also been urged to address the root causes of the problem, including poverty and unemployment, which have been identified as factors driving young people into criminal activities.
