A man named James Kimathi Muthuri was arrested for impersonating a lawyer in Kenya after a raid by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) at his office. He has been detained in police custody for practicing law without a license for a year.
The suspect claimed he worked in his uncle’s law firm and was currently pursuing a law degree but LSK said his office did not appear on their list of law firms in Kenya. Muthuri had the audacity to open a law office in a market called Muriri but when LSK officials raided the office to seek the licenses, the man took off.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charge of impersonation. The matter was scheduled to be mentioned before another court on May 2, 2023. The magistrate recused herself from the case, as she was potentially a witness, and denied the suspect bail. He will be detained for 14 days.
