Former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has expressed concern over the recent result coup in the Adamawa State governorship election, warning that it could trigger a military takeover.
In a video message shared on his YouTube channel, Omokri highlighted the similarities between the current situation and the events that led to the fall of the second republic in Nigeria. He urged the Buhari administration to be cautious and learn from history to avoid a breakdown of law and order.
Omokri emphasized the need for the government to be mindful of the repercussions of the recent result coup in Adamawa State, where the winner was declared midway into the collation process by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner.
He drew parallels to the past events in Ondo State during the second republic, where a similar situation occurred and led to widespread unrest, violence, and ultimately a military takeover.
He further highlighted the dangers of such actions to Nigeria’s democracy and expressed his concern that history could repeat itself if similar mistakes are made. Omokri urged the government to learn from past mistakes, be cautious, and ensure that the rule of law prevails in order to maintain the stability and integrity of the country’s democratic process.
