Gombe United shatter Nasarawa United’s dream of NPFL survival with a 1-1 draw in Match Day 14

Nasarawa United’s quest to climb out of the relegation zone in the ongoing 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League has encountered another hurdle as they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Gombe United at the New Jos Stadium on Match Day 14.

The match witnessed both teams creating several goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, but failing to convert them, resulting in a goalless draw at halftime. However, the game came alive in the 71st minute when Gombe United managed to break the deadlock and take a 1-0 lead.

Nasarawa United, determined to salvage a point, pressed on and in the 85th minute, Francis Ayuba of Nasarawa United scored a header to level the scores at 1-1 during an aerial contest in the box. Despite some late efforts from both teams, the game ended in a draw.

With this result, Nasarawa United currently find themselves in the 9th position on the Group A table with 10 points from 14 games, while Gombe United sit in the 6th position with 18 points, making for a closely contested league.

In other matches, Bayelsa United will be hosting Lobi Stars, Bendel Insurance will be taking a trip to Ikenne to face Remo Stars, and Plateau United will be trading tackles with Akwa United. Doma United and Wikki Tourists will also face each other, while El-Kanemi Warriors will be seeking to defeat 3SC and Dakkada will be facing the defending champions, Rivers United.

Kwara United will be aiming for a win as they host Enyimba, while Abia Warriors will be playing host to Sunshine Stars. Enugu Rangers, who have been struggling in the league, will be attempting to revive their season when they host Niger Tornadoes in a crucial match.

In the midst of the ongoing football action, Wikki Tourists has also appealed to the Interim Management Committee to review the sanctions imposed on the club in relation to the match between Wikki Tourists and Bayelsa United FC, showing the dynamic and competitive nature of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
