Hon. Victor Chukwu, the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, has vehemently denied the false and misleading rumors of Governor David Umahi seeking a N33 billion loan approval.
He labeled the rumors as the handiwork of desperate opposition in the state and clarified that the State Government has not approached the House for any loan. During a meeting with journalists in Abakaliki, Hon. Chukwu emphasized that Governor Umahi does not need such a loan less than a month before the expiration of his tenure.
Hon. Chukwu stated that the context within which the rumor was insinuated was based on a social media post by the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi, Chika Nwoba.

He emphasized that, to his knowledge, the Ebonyi State Government has never written to the House for N1 billion, N5 billion, N10 billion, or N20 billion loans. He described the rumor as false, unfounded, and untrue, and attributed it to the extremism in opposition.
Hon. Chukwu expressed his disappointment with the spreading of baseless falsehoods that are anti-government and highlighted that citizens often blame the government or their representatives for any issues they face.
He questioned the motive behind such allegations and emphasized that the government’s financial position is sound, with no debts from contractors, civil servants, or anyone else. He considered the loan approval request for N33 billion as ludicrous, given the government’s imminent expiration by May.
