Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, recently appeared as a guest on the +44 Amazon Music podcast, where he revealed that his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, sparked his interest in politics. The Omo Baba Olowo crooner shared insights on how fans often expect celebrities to comment on politics and amplify public views.
During the podcast interview, Davido expressed his thoughts more political matters. He explained, “The reason why I feel like they want people [celebrities] to speak is that they feel like we are publicists. First of all, they want to know our opinions.”

He further elaborated that when celebrities express their opinions on social media, their large following can amplify their views and influence public discourse, which can be both positive and negative.
Davido also shared his personal experience with speaking up about politics in Nigeria, stating, “I’ve spoken in the past about politics in Nigeria and I got bashed for it.”

However, he revealed that his interest in politics was ignited by his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had an election in 2018 that was controversially nullified. Despite the setback, Davido mentioned that his uncle’s subsequent victory in a later election motivated him to become more involved in Nigerian politics.
