UNICEF reports 6,800 children facing violations in North-East Nigeria

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that over 6,800 children in Nigeria’s North-East have suffered grave violations of their rights, including abduction, recruitment by armed groups, killing, and maiming, with devastating consequences on their lives and education.

UNICEF representative in Nigeria, Cristian Munduate, emphasized the urgent need for action to protect children in the country, citing the recent abduction of 80 children in Zamfara State as a stark reminder of the ongoing crisis.

She called on the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of children affected by armed conflict, including those released from armed groups, and ensure their safety, access to education, and opportunities for a brighter future.
