In a letter to the United Nations General Assembly, dated April 13, 2023, Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed disciple of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has declared himself as the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE).
Ekpa urged global recognition of the BRGIE, established to govern the ‘Biafra nation’ from outside its territory, and appealed for the unconditional release of Kanu and other ‘Biafrans’ held captive in Nigeria.
Ekpa stated that IPOB established the exile government in their determination to exit Nigeria, citing various reasons for the South-East region’s desire to separate from Nigeria.
